Sausage & Mash Cafe, Portobello Road, London.

My stomach's rumbling at the thought!

I'm fairly traditionalist when it comes to sausage&mash - Powters sausages, plain mash and onion gravy. My hand wavers over 'boar and winklepicker' or 'pork, turnip, gruyere and catnip' but returns to the old favourites again and again. I've been burned before, you see - wonderful names, disappointing sausages. But still, the idea of choosing my sausage, my mash *and* my gravy thrills me to the core!

Any great combination recommendations out there?

And to start the ball rolling!

Why create a Real Food community? Well, its the usual old chestnut really. I was browsing trying to find some decent foody place to extol the virtues of a decent british banger and was shocked, nay, stunned to discover places of stomach churning revoltingness. Places inhabited by the banana, bacon and cheese toasted sandwich. My stomach still quivers in disgust at a recipe for Snickers Pie. My jaded apetite yawns at the idea of pan frying any sort of mollusc in ginger and lemongrass.

What I want is real food.
